History of Haukipudas upper secondary school
On December 22, 1948, the municipal council of Haukipudas decided to found a private municipal secondary school. The Finnish parliament granted permission for Haukipudas lukio on March 23, 1950.
The school's first curriculum was approved in May of 1950. School began with only four grades but grew to five grades in 1955 and then to eight in 1961.
In 1969, the Haukipudas secondary school was divided into an intermediate and upper secondary school. In 1994, the new national curriculum came into force giving the schools more power to decide how to use their resources. Since 1995, the students are free to draw up their individual curricula. In 1996, the Matriculation Examination was transformed allowing students more freedom of choice.
